Flora and Fauna

Approximately 96 acres of semi natural woodland 1 kilometre south west of Harrogate town centre.

The site runs gently southwest.

Major tree species include

Scots Pine, Birch, Holly, English Oak, Rowan

 

Minor tree species include

Common beech, sycamore, alder, hornbeam, spruce, whitebeam yew, hawthorn and European larch.

 

Fauna .

The Pinewoods has a great variety of bird species, including Song Thrush, Blackcap (summer) Chiffchaff, Goldcrest,Long – tailed tit, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Jakiny. Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Siskin, Bullfinch – if you are lucky.

 

Not forgetting all the usual suspects of Blackbird, Robin, Wren, Wood Pigeon, Collored Dove, to name a few.

 

Many will be easier to hear during summer months, and a lot more could be seen as fly- overs – even the Red Kite on occasions.

 

The Pinewoods contain many footpaths, which are easily accessible from Harlow Moor Road, Harlow Moor Drive and Crag Lane, and of course through the Valley Gardens.

Mile walk runs from Crag Lane through to the War Memorial where the Pinewoods meets Valley Gardens (or vice versa.)

The recently installed footpath allows pedestrian and wheelchair/pushchair access along its entire length, allowing everyone to enjoy the benefits of the Pinewoods.

 

The site currently has three information board s and one panorama board, highlighting woodland paths, local flora and fauna and points of local interest.

Forthcoming events and contact details for the group are posted on the notice board close to the War Memorial at the start of the Pinewoods.

 

The information boards are located off Crag Lane, adjoining the recreation area of the woodland and adjoining the War Memorial where the Pinewoods meet Valley Gardens.ing soon.
